"Here's the story,
of a man named Albert,
who couldn't escape his over-smothering Mom!" |
We first find Albert and his Mama in
NYC, where he sings about putting on a happy face. |
Then his Mama comes along and reminds
him why he wants to get married, grow up and move away. |
"I know my sonny-boy ... he loves his
Mama. He'd never say anything to break her heart!" |
Our show was double-cast, so there
are a number of cast members who you'll see two different players.
Conrad was the same for both casts. |
These are the two Rosie's with
Conrad, singing about his dubious beginnings in the music world. |
One of the Alberts (mine) joins the
story just to make it complicated. |
Our choreographer added a couple
homages, one to Michael Jackson (Conrad moonwalked) and here the
young people are doing the Time Warp! |
Conrad shimmie and sways, and makes
all the girls scream, then finally slays 'em in the aisles! |
9:00AM arrives awfully early for
Conrad ... he goes to the fridge to get a beer. |
The MacAfee family singing about how
excited they are to be on the Ed Sullivan show! |
When Mama doesn't get her way ...
look out! |
Here she is crying about the letter
Albert sent her, dissolving the company that keeps him tied to her. |
After she makes Albert feel guilty,
and Rosie even madder, Mama changes the subject. |
"Have I found you the perfect
secretary!" |
"What does Rosie need a job for. In a
year or two she'll be getting Social Security!" |
And she does more than type! |
She also tap dances. |
Albert gets himself in hot water with
Rosie by agreeing to "interview" the candidate. |
Later on, over at the Ed Sullivan
Show, Conrad sings and swings again, causing another swoon-fest. |
Rosie has arranged for the jealous
Hugo to ruin the show by punching Conrad in front of millions of TV
viewers, and Kim! |
Conrad is left to wrap up the show
with Conrad on the floor, his Mama trying to revive him, and the
"secretary" by his side. It's not looking good for Albert at
the end of Act I. |
My "twin," the other Mama Peterson. |
Again, when she doesn't get her way,
watch out! Mama tries the "I'll stick my head in the oven" routine,
but Albert's getting harder to break down. |
When Conrad threatens to go out and
carouse on the town, Albert says "Mama, do something!" |
So Mama flirts ... just a little ...
with the attractive Conrad. Who wants none of what's offered!! |
Meanwhile, Rosie has decided to go
out and "live" herself, and finds a bar filled with men. Albert
calls to try to get her to come home ... to no avail. |
The shriners are at the bar, and keep
Rosie company for awhile. |
Conrad has indeed gone out and found
himself some "chicks" and a little trouble to boot! |
After Mama is told off in no
uncertain terms by Albert, she tries to have a chat with Rosie, only
to be disappointed even more. |
She reluctantly goes to the train
heading home, to find Conrad, hiding from police in drag, and Albert
sends her packing in no uncertain terms. |
Then he sings his sweet love song to
Rosie, and they plan their future together. The End. |
