OCTOBER 2 0 0 9
Janet and Joyce had to work, but Ana took Nana to her favorite winery for Nana's 79th Birthday. here are the pictures of the very fun day.

And a week later, the gals went to The City for their special day. They watched famous flyboys, ate at a famous cafe, and had an adventure on rapid transit.

In the evening, they joined friends for dinner and a movie. Here are the pictures.

At the end of the month Ana finally opened in The Wiz. She had a great run of three performances over one weekend (see the pictures). The following weekend The Fantasticks opened at their theatre, and Ana was there opening night to house manage and attend the opening gala reception afterward.

Ana sewed for 17 hours the week before Halloween and created this very fun 'dark Tink' costume for Joyce to wear to work, and then to other festivities afterward. Ain't she cute!

Shows we've seen: Ana went to see several of their friends at another production of The Producers.

  NOVEMBER
Ana and Joyce got to see their team play again, but unfortunately, the boys couldn't get the win. Later that evening they joined several friends for karaoke. Even though Ana had laryngitis, she joined Joyce for an unusual occasion of a duet ... they haven't sung together in public since they performed together in Joseph in 2003!!  Ana sang baritone harmony this time, and Joyce sang the soprano melody on the Sheryl Crowe / Kid Rock duet "Picture."

Production meetings started for High School Musical 2. Pretty soon they'll be auditioning several talented young people for next Spring's show.

Ana joined one of her friends from work and the HP Choir to see their Sharks play a lively game of hockey, which they won 6-3!!! Go Sharks!  Speaking of the choir, rehearsals were in full swing for the upcoming holiday concerts. Ana will be singing in 4 specials this season; she'll be reprising her song Santa Baby by popular demand, she will be duetting on Little Drummer Boy / Peace on Earth with her Sharks fan friend, she'll be joining several friends on a medley called Take 6 Christmas, and she'll sing solo on The Secret of Christmas.

One of their dear dear friends from their congregation passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Her memorial was held a few days later. Ana and Joyce will miss Ann terribly. Her special brand of love, warmth and humor were always a joy to be around. The world will seem less so with her gone.

For Thanksgiving, Joyce pulled a double-shift at work, and Ana joined Nana and Gwen for dinner at their new favorite Thanksgiving restaurant, Black Angus. It's always nice to be able to spend time with family and give thanks for all that we are blessed with!

Shows they've seen: Ana and Joyce finally broke down and went to see the movie This Is It which both of them thoroughly enjoyed. Ana continued house managing duties for Fantasticks which featured several of their friends. The gals went to see 5 of their friends in A Taffeta Wedding, where the 4 lovely Taffetas get married to the 4 Cardigans ... too fun! Ana was thrilled when the Star Trek movie finally came out on DVD ... she got her copy with the accompanying plastic Enterprise model, which she built while watching the movie that first Tuesday night.

  DECEMBER
The gals held auditions, as co-producers, for High School Musical 2, until Joyce was cajoled into auditioning!  Of course she was selected to be in the cast.

Ana performed with the HP Choir in only two concerts this season. It's getting harder to get a crowd to come out at lunch hour. Even the Friends & Family evening concert had lower attendance than usual. But those in attendance were at least appreciative.

Joyce went to Disneyland with her dad before the holidays, so that she could work on the holidays to get extra money.

Joyce and Ana each have a friend in the Silicon Valley Gay Men's Chorus so they caught a performance of their holiday season at the beautiful Le Petit Trianon in downtown SJ. What an amazing sound ... both how the men sing, and how it sounds in that building!

Joyce had to work, so Ana caught the last home game of the season with a friend who was in town for the holidays. She wore her autographed jersey to the game - but was told by all "never" to do that again, it needs to go in a display case! And to make it even better, the team won the game - yay!

Ana won a radio call-in contest by singing "Auld Lang Syne" - at 6:30 in the morning - and the prize she won was 2 tickets for New Years Eve to see a local band that Ana has been following since the '70s. Joyce was able to get her shift covered at work, so they drove down to Monterey and had a lovely free dinner and then enjoyed the concert/dance band until it was time to wish "Happy New Year!" (Since it was semi-formal/formal preferred, the gals got to get all dolled up!) They stayed overnight and drove back home the next day.

Shows they've seen: Harvey, performed by the drama students at Ana's high school. The Poptimists, a cute musical revue poking fun at the squeaky clean singing groups that used to entertain in high schools in the 70's; this show was written by a good friend of the gals. They went to see the new Disney cartoon Princess and the Frog which is excellent! Such great music, a cute version of the traditional story, and beautiful artistry in the animation.
